New Development: The Edition

The marriage of an iconic city and an iconic brand is sure to be a match made in heaven - and that is true of the Edition Residences in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood.

If you’ve stayed at any of the Edition properties, you don’t need me to tell you that they are deserving of their reputation as one of the most highly-rated hotel brands in the world. That all comes from the vision of Ian Schraeger, who partnered with Marriott in 2007 to build these destination hotels in destination cities.

The success is no surprise, considering Schraeger is behind iconic locations like Studio 54, and often credited as the person to make hotel lobbies the chic socializing spaces we know them to be today. In that way, Schraeger is a tastemaker like no other; an influencer before that term was even invented. For five decades, he has had his finger on the pulse of how and what we want to experience from our spaces, constantly reinventing what is cool and chic.

His obsessive attention to detail at all levels transformed the hotel business and permanently raised expectations of what a home can be. These days, Schraeger seems to be a bit more focused on the Public Hotels brand, but his vision persists at every Edition location. The stellar design and architecture teams that are executing on that vision at the Miami residences deliver on the same level of luxury promised at the hotels.

Unlike many of the hotel brands that own residences, there is no hotel component to this Edition. That, combined with the neighborhood, will make for a quieter location that makes it a standout from many other parts of Miami.

Having recently toured the project, I know that the location, and the building itself, will make for a lovely and serene living experience. Here are a few of my highlights to consider if you’re interested in exploring what the Edition has to offer.

Location: The Edgewater neighborhood has become increasingly popular, thanks to its residential atmosphere that is still close to all the great Miami hot spots. Residents will be close to the Design District, Wynwood and Downtown, as well as the beach and airport in either direction. The building is also close to Margaret Pace Park, a favorite of Miami locals for social recreation.

Amenities: All you could want and more, including a full-service poolside lounge and bar, a cinema and a multi-sport simulator. Residents also have exclusive privileges and access to all Marriott International Hotels and resorts around the globe.

Design: The interior and architecture teams (Studio Munge and Arquitectonica) have worked together on a very special aesthetic, finding harmony between the materials chosen and the scope of the interior spaces. 10-14-foot ceilings bring an extra level of grandeur to it all.

Views: Edgewater’s claim to fame really should be the views. The neighborhood is situated right on Biscayne Bay, and Edition residents can see past Miami Beach to the ocean, as well as the downtown skyline.
